The plant hire firm Selwood has begun testing on a QR code labelling system which will be applied to each item plant equipment. The system will allow the user to scan a unique QR via a smartphone or tablet giving access to a range of supporting documents.

These supporting documents can include information on health and safety records, service information, maintenance, instructional video’s or manuals all by simply scanning an equipment QR code.

Selwood believes that the new system could help contractors operating on large sites keep track of multiple pieces of equipment. It also believes that it is the only plant hire provider in the UK to use machine QR codes in this way.

Scott Butler, Selwood’s operations and fleet manager, said: “This is a really smart system that means we and our customers no longer have to rely on paper copies of important documentation and can ensure the information is not lost or damaged.”

Custom Labels are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of labels for every application, from IT equipment to large scale outdoor industrial equipment. We provide a number of construction-based companies with ultra-durable QR labels allowing users to track assets, access important documentation, tutorial video’s and catalogues to view additional information on equipment.

The information stored within the QR can also be linked to an asset management database to track and locate equipment or conduct their compliance audits.
