The £4 billion Agratas battery manufacturing facility in Bridgwater, Somerset is steadily taking shape, building on the vision we outlined in our previous blog about this landmark project. With construction now in full swing, the site is becoming a major hub for advanced manufacturing, clean energy and electric vehicle supply chains in the South West.
Construction Progress
New aerial footage from Agratas highlights significant developments at Building One, the first phase of the facility.
- Over 3,000 tonnes of locally sourced concrete have been poured for the lower and mezzanine decks.
- Steelwork is underway for a 100 metre long central utilities building, which will monitor and manage data and power across the site.
- Around 450 personnel are now on site, including Agratas staff, contractors and teams from Sir Robert McAlpine, the main construction partner.
Once operational, Building One alone will support 2,200 direct jobs and 7,500 roles across the broader supply chain during construction. Recruitment for operational roles is expected next year, with up to 1,600 positions in the pipeline.
Why Industrial Labelling Matters
As we highlighted previously, large scale manufacturing projects like the Agratas gigafactory rely on reliable asset tracking and identification systems to ensure smooth operations. From machinery to production lines, durable asset tags, industrial labels and graphic overlays are vital for:
- Equipment tracking and maintenance
- Health and safety compliance
- Production traceability and quality control
- Tool and material management
At Custom Labels Ltd, we specialise in high performance labels designed for the harshest industrial environments, including EV battery manufacturing machinery, test rigs and control panels. Both our Ultimate & UltraTuff asset tags are engineered to withstand heavy abrasion, chemicals, and long service cycles, making them ideal for facilities of this scale.
Supporting Somerset’s Growing Industrial Ecosystem
Agratas’ expansion is more than a single site, it is an investment in the regional economy and is projected to contribute over £700 million annually once fully operational. Local suppliers, construction contractors and specialist service providers all stand to benefit, including industrial labelling specialists like us, supporting efficient, safe and compliant operations.
As development continues, we are excited to help ensure the facility runs smoothly with robust, tailored identification solutions built for real world industrial use. Whether it is asset tags, barcode labels or graphic overlays, our products are designed to last as long as the equipment they identify.
For manufacturers, subcontractors or facilities managers connected to the Agratas project, reliable labelling is not optional, it is essential. We are here to provide expert guidance and high quality solutions to meet those demands.
