The food ordering company Zomato has introduced a new 100% tamper-proof packaging to add an extra layer of security to their food deliveries.

The company has piloted the ‘Zomato Security Sealed’ initiative in Delhi, Mumbai and six other major cities within India.

Sealed packages will be available for starters in small and large sizes for one to two food item boxes and two to four large boxes, respectively. The packaging will also make better use of space.

The package works in such a way that once sealed by the restaurant it can only be broken by cutting off the top-end strip. This ensures that there is no other way to access the food inside due to the tamper-proof packaging. If the security seal is open, consumers will be advised not to accept the delivery.

“We take consolation in the fact that each package is made from a single-material polymer with 50 microns thickness and are completely recyclable.”

Zomato CEO Mohit Gupta said: “We understand that the safety seals are made from plastic however we take consolation in the fact that each package is made from a single-material polymer with 50 microns thickness, and are completely recyclable.

“In the not-so-distant future, we will move towards a biodegradable option.”

Zomato will also message customers via the companies mobile app with a  ‘100% Safely Sealed’ message for all restaurants who sign-up to use the packaging, helping consumers to make an informed choice.
